Kerala has a well-structured network of Blood centres and Blood Storage Centres (BSC) functioning in hub and Spoke model. Blood centres and networked with BSc’s where screened blood units are stored and issued to patients after cross matching. Blood Transportation vans are stationed in all districts by KSBTC for the transportation of Blood units among blood centres and BSC’s.
BSc’s are set up in FRUs to ensure the blood availability, where the requirement of blood is less than 2000 units annually. Setting up of a BSC is cost effective with minimal space and equipment’s for its functioning.
